Begin Your Journey
Would you like to begin The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award — Canada with our Award Centre? Here are the steps to follow, from confirming your eligibility through to beginning your activities.
Before You Begin
Is This the Right Time to Register?
The Award is open to young people aged 14 to 24. You choose a level — Bronze, Silver or Gold — and then select activities that match the different Award sections.
You do not need to have everything planned in advance. Our Award Centre team will help you understand the requirements, choose your goals and prepare the next steps.
Before Completing the Form
- Make sure you have an email address that you check regularly.
- Have your contact information and date of birth ready.
- If you are under 18, have your parent or guardian's contact information ready.
- Think about which Award level you would like to begin.
- Contact us if you are unsure whether Bronze, Silver or Gold is right for you.
Registration Process
Six Simple Steps
Our form starts your registration with the Society's Award Centre. Our team then guides you through the official steps required by Award Canada.

Confirm Your Eligibility
Make sure you meet the age requirement, are eligible to join our Award Centre and are ready to commit to the different Award sections.

Choose Your Level
Bronze starts at age 14, Silver at 15 and Gold at 16. If you are unsure which level is right for your journey, our team can help.

Complete the Society's Registration Form
Provide the requested information. If you are under 18, consent from a parent or guardian will be required.

Complete Registration and Applicable Fees
Our team will confirm the next steps, applicable fees and the information required to complete your official registration.

Attend Orientation and Activate Your Journey in the ORB
You will learn how to use the Online Record Book (ORB), choose your activities, write your goals and work with your assessors.

Begin Your Award
Once your activities are approved, begin your journey, record your progress regularly in the ORB and stay in contact with your Award Leader.
Participant Under 18?
Award Canada requires signed parental consent before a participant under 18 can be registered for the Award. Our Award Centre form will therefore collect the parent or guardian's contact information and consent.
The young person remains responsible for their own Award journey; the parent or guardian's role is primarily to encourage, support and guide them.
A parent or guardian signature section will be included in the new registration form.Be Prepared
A Few Tips Before You Start
🎯 For Participants
- Choose activities that genuinely interest you.
- Ask whether an activity you already do may be eligible.
- Set clear, realistic and measurable goals.
- Have your activities approved before you begin recording them.
- Choose an appropriate assessor for each section.
- Update your ORB regularly.
- Begin planning your Adventurous Journey early.
👨👩👧 For Parents and Guardians
- Discuss the time and commitment required with the young person.
- Encourage them to choose their own activities and goals.
- Help them organize their schedule without completing the work for them.
- Review communications, consent requirements and deadlines.
- Ask questions about costs, supervision, equipment and safety.
- Encourage regular updates to the Online Record Book.
- Celebrate their progress and achievements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Before Completing the Form
Is It a Competition?
No. Each participant sets their own personal goals and progresses along their own journey.
Can I Start Directly at Silver or Gold?
Yes, if you meet the minimum age requirement. Direct entry at a higher level generally requires a longer minimum commitment.
Can I Use an Activity I Already Do?
Possibly. The activity must fit an Award section, include a progression goal and be approved by the Award Centre.
Do I Have to Complete All My Activities Through the Society?
No. Many activities may be completed in the community, subject to eligibility and approval.
Who Confirms My Progress?
An appropriate assessor confirms progress for each section. Our team will explain the criteria that must be met.
When Can I Start Recording My Activities?
After your registration and the approval of your activities by your Award Leader. Avoid recording activities before they have been approved.
