Meet the age requirement, be eligible to join the Society's Award Centre and be ready to commit to the Award sections.

Choose a Level

Contact our team if you are unsure whether Bronze, Silver or Gold is the right level for the participant.

STEP 3

Complete the Form

Provide the requested information and, when required, consent from a parent or guardian.

STEP 4

Submit Payment

Pay the registration fee using the method described by our team.

STEP 5

Attend Orientation

Meet the Award Leader, select activities, set goals and learn how to use the Online Record Book.

STEP 6

Begin the Journey

Complete activities, record progress and stay in contact with assessors and the Award Leader.

Choose activities that genuinely interest you.

Ask whether an activity you already do may be eligible.

Set clear, realistic and measurable goals.

Have your activities approved before recording them.

Choose an appropriate assessor for each section.

Update your Online Record Book regularly.

Contact your Award Leader promptly if your plan changes.

Begin planning your Adventurous Journey early.

Stay consistent: the Award recognizes progress and commitment.

Discuss the time and commitment required.

Encourage the young person to choose their own activities and goals.

Help organize their schedule without completing the work for them.

Review communications, consent forms and deadlines.

Ask questions about costs, supervision, equipment and safety.

Confirm any insurance requirements that apply to activities.

Encourage regular updates to the Online Record Book.

Is it a competition?

No. Each participant sets personal goals and progresses along their own journey.

Can I start directly at Silver or Gold?

Yes, if you meet the minimum age requirement. Direct entry at an advanced level generally requires a longer commitment.

Can I use an activity I already do?

Possibly. The activity must fit an Award section, include a progression goal and be approved by the Award Centre.

Must I complete every activity through the Society?

Not necessarily. Many activities may be completed in the community, subject to eligibility and approval.

Who confirms my progress?

An appropriate assessor confirms progress for each section. The Award Leader will explain the selection criteria.

How long does it take?

The duration depends on the level and prior pathway. See the "Award Levels" section on the main page for typical timelines.

The Honourable Steven MacKinnon, MP, PC

Minister of Transport and Government House Leader

Liberal Member of Parliament for Gatineau in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015, re-elected four times. Before entering politics, he was an executive in communications and public affairs, notably as Vice-President at Hill + Knowlton Strategies Canada, and was actively involved with the Liberal Party of Canada, including as National Director from 2003 to 2007.

The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, OC, DStJ, OOnt

29th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario (2014-2023)

The longest-serving holder of the office in the province's history, affectionately known as Ontario's "Storyteller-in-Chief." Her career spans provincial, federal, and international spheres: she served as Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, later becoming founding President of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization and President of the Council of Canadian Academies. She holds 11 honorary doctorates.

The Honourable J. Michel Doyon, KStJ, KC, BA, LL.L, PhD, AdE

29th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec (2015-2024); Honorary Patron of the CSC

A lawyer, historian, and professor by training, Mr. Doyon served as Bâtonnier of Quebec from 2007 to 2008 before being appointed the 29th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec. A member of the Venerable Order of Saint John and a Knight of the Legion of Honour, he serves as Honorary Patron of the Crown Society of Canada.

The Honourable Paul Calandra, MPP

Ontario Minister of Education

Ontario's Minister of Education since 2025, he has represented the riding of Markham—Stouffville in the Legislative Assembly since 2018. He previously served as Government House Leader (2019-2024) and as Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing as well as Minister of Long-Term Care. He was the federal Member of Parliament for Oak Ridges—Markham from 2008 to 2015.

Mr. Greg Peters, MVO, CStJ

Usher of the Black Rod, Senate of Canada

A retired member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Mr. Peters was appointed Usher of the Black Rod of the Senate of Canada in 2013, with his term renewed in 2018. In this role, he serves as the King's personal servant and messenger in Parliament and as the Senate's most senior protocol officer.

Mr. Anthony Hylton, LVO

Former Chief of Staff and Private Secretary, Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario

After 32 years in the Ontario Public Service, Mr. Hylton distinguished himself over a decade as Chief of Staff and Private Secretary to four successive Lieutenant Governors of Ontario. A gifted organizer, he commissioned major art exhibitions, led community roundtables, and orchestrated official ceremonies. In 2022, he was invested as a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order by His Majesty The King.

LCol (ret.) Jean-François Provençal, MVO, CStJ, CD

Former Chief of Staff and Senior Aide-de-Camp, Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec

A retired Lieutenant-Colonel, he served as Honorary Aide-de-Camp, and later Chief of Staff and Senior Aide-de-Camp, to four successive Lieutenant Governors of Quebec since 1990, including the Honourable J. Michel Doyon from 2017 to 2024. Within Quebec's National Assembly from 2000 to 2017, he organized international gatherings including the London and Sochi Olympic Games. He is a Commander of the Order of Saint John.

Citizenship Judge Albert Wong, CD

Citizenship Judge; former Chief of the Aide-de-Camp Corps, Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario

A veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces with nearly four decades of continuous service, including postings with the United Nations in Eritrea and Ethiopia. Since retiring from the military in 2014, he has served as a Citizenship Judge, presiding over ceremonies for more than 300,000 new Canadians. He also served as Aide-de-Camp and later Chief of the Aide-de-Camp corps to the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 2009 to 2020.

Dr. Carolyn Harris, MA, PhD

Royal historian; guest speaker, Toronto event (April 2026)

A historian, author, and royal commentator based in Toronto, she holds a PhD in history from Queen's University and teaches at the University of Toronto's School of Continuing Studies. The author of several books on the history of European monarchies, she is regularly sought out by major international media outlets. In 2025, she received the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Her Honour Edith Dumont.
